“»To change the world, we must first change the way the babies are being born» is one of the most often heard phrases when you arrive by the first time to the first and most important Maternity Clinic run by traditional midwives, located on Colonia San Rafael, in San Miguel de Allende, on which over ten thousand babies have seen their first light and with excellent health ratings.
Its name is CASA A.C. and it’s the go-to place for mothers who want a natural birth for their children, surrounded by family and loved ones in the most important time of their lives. The clinic is run by graduated from the midwives school, also part of the Foundation and the first established in Mexico. The midwives strive to make every birth a special and intimate experience for the mothers, always respecting their rights and using evidence based medicine, besides offering other family focused health services.
Clinica de Maternidad CASA is born from a civil association with 30 years of experience created to help young women in reproductive health related issues, and over time began including quality personalized attention to pregnancies and births with a focus on women’s rights.
Besides the pregnancy and birth care, CASA offers other services for the entire family, like:
- Clinical laboratory
- Dental office with two dentists attending mornings and evenings from Monday to Saturday
- Psychology services
- General medicine
- Two gynecologists working along the midwives to bring the best care for women, and medical consultations
- Fully free family planning services and materials like Condoms, pills, IUD’s and more, plus free orientation when required.
Births are classified in two categories:
- Respetado or Humanizado
- Water birth
The clinic allows mothers the choice to be accompanied during childbirth and to choose the way they want to give birth, sitting, lying down, in water, whatever way is more comfortable. For the mother.
Gabriela Cárdenas is a professional midwife and has six years working with the clinic. Her family has a long line of professional midwives attending in communities distant from the city. She has attended around six hundred births during her career.
“Attending a birth is something very special. It’s a trascendental time for mothers and their babies. There’s a well known Obstetrician/Gynecologist on this movement, Michel Odent, who says “To change the world, we must first change the way the babies are being born», and it’s true, because what we as midwives do is to give babies the best welcome into the world.”
Currently there are four midwives attending in the clinic, all of them graduated from CASA, Gaby Cárdenas among them.
Manuela Mendoza is a traditional midwife with over 30 years of experience, she started on her own as self-taught, but she receives monthly training.
Angeles Loyola graduated on the 2007-2010 generation and has been working three years on the clinic, her work includes caring for births, breastfeeding attention, prenatal control and water birth care.
Abril Landin, graduated from the 11th generation and has been practicing for ten years, attending births both at rooms and in water, performing the Pap smear, birth preparation, sexual health education and more.
