The Guanajuato Commission of the National Crusade against Hunger convened in San Miguel de Allende and the members agreed to provide resources to clean up Las Cachinches stream and seek to offer the city’s elderly citizens full pension coverage.

In attendance was Diconsa General Director Héctor Velasco Monroy, who said he will make sure that the funds are used for their intended purposes in each state.

Claudia Navarrete, Guanajuato delegate of the Ministry of Social Development (SEDESOL), Ramón Medellín, secretary of city council, Martín Salgado Cacho, director of Social Development and representatives of nine municipalities within the state also participated in the event.

Medellín commented that the Crusade against Hunger is a great institution that can fight on behalf of sanmiguelenses. “It is a breath of fresh air for San Miguel, a cosmopolitan city that has so many great things, but there is still much to be done. We are going to work hard to ensure that everything comes together the best way possible.»

Navarrete stipulated that the goal of the meeting was to define this year’s agenda and to establish the key areas within the municipality in which to invest government funding.

According to the SEDESOL delegate, the project to clean up the Cachinches river is very ambitious and will have an impact on social cohesion and crime prevention.

“Everytime we improve part of the city, there is a ripple effect. In the case of San Miguel de Allende, the impact is greater societal integration, leading to an enhanced city image, which attracts more tourism, and in turn, boosts the local economy.”

She underlined that this project requires the support of all federal institutions, like SEMARNAT and SEDESOL. “We need to take advantage of the benefits that each federal institution can offer. This project in particular is very ambitious because it requires the assistance of various delegations. Mayor Mauricio Trejo is behind the project and it is important that we show him our full support.”
