Mayor Exposes Social-Network Con Man

Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco warns the people of San Miguel de Allende of a man who claims to be a self-defense pro and union leader, who seeks to incite unwarranted fear among citizens across the main social networking websites for extortionary purposes.

The people of San Miguel should be weary of this man, who calls himself «Leopoldo» and takes advantage of upsetting situations to instill greater fear and extort money. His wrongful actions are known and have been reported to the local authorities to track down the culprit.

“He is a con man and should be reported to the police,” he writes on Facebook.

Trejo Pureco informs his followers that the full force of the law will be brought to bear against the individual behind these threats.

“This man is a fraud: he has been reported to the police and faces criminal charges.”

On Twitter, the city mayor writes: «@MauricioTrejoP: Anyone who thinks he can get away with extortion, passing himself off as some expert, is going to jail. Zero tolerance for con artists.”

He informed his Facebook followers that reports had been made previously through the media and officially through the Department of Public Security, however, it was over the weekend that the presumed extortionist by the name of “Leopoldo” started targeting San Miguel de Allende.

He also underlines that this man doesn’t ask for money to buy weapons, but instead, poses as a self-defense expert and union head.

As stated on the mayor’s Facebook timeline, those who have fallen victim are invited to call 088 or send an email to ceac@cns.gob.mx to report the incident.
