State Healthcare Tackles Addiction

In an effort to mitigate the consumption of drugs within the region, the Ministry of Health launched the State Network of “New Life” Centers.

Providing care to patients who suffer from addiction, these medical facilities are scattered across Guanajuato, with New Life Centers in San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, Celaya, Irapuato, Silao, León and the state capital.

Minister of Health Francisco Ignacio Ortiz Aldana explains that the New Life Centers are an extension of the UNEME Specialized Health Clinics and are designed for out- patient treatment.

As a campaign that directly subscribes to governor Miguel Márquez’s pledge for a “Better Quality of Life,” the minister affirms that a healthcare model for the prevention and treatment of drug addiction in Guanajuato goes hand in hand with the state’s initiative to prevent or delay the onset of substance abuse among adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17.

There are also plans to devise measures for the early detection of drug abuse among the most vulnerable groups of young people, as well as for experimental users and their families.

New Life Centers provide specialized services based on a multi-disciplinary approach, with medical care and counseling services for addiction, through “Brief” intervention programs that help patients refrain from using drugs while providing them with the support needed to combat the addiction.

Each center is equipped with specific strategies for patient orientation, detection and counseling, along with activities to help those who seek support to develop their personal skills.

The New Life Center of San Miguel de Allende is located at calle Primero de Mayo No. 37, in the Ignacio Ramírez district.
