Zero Tolerance for Corruption in the State

Today, Guanajuato is one of the strongest and most prosperous states in Mexico,” affirms Governor Miguel Márquez during the presentation of his second activity report. Having surpassed the national averages in terms of production, employment and exports, the state is now the seventh leading economy in the country with investments of over $2.4 billion, representing the largest investment made in Guanajuato in the last 20 years.

The Márquez administration puts honesty before all else: zero tolerance and zero impunity. Since his arrival in office, he has proposed initiatives to fight corruption: the Law of Transparency and Access to Public Information and the Anti-Corruption Law in Public Procurement, along with amendments to a number of articles pertaining to the Law of Administrative Responsibilities of Civil Servants in the State of Guanajuato and Municipalities.

For the past year and a half, his government has succeeded in taking the first steps toward guaranteeing public security, fortifying the state’s economy and building trust among the com- munity to ensure that 2014 is the best year yet. He has redoubled efforts to introduce more schools, hospitals, highways and roads in rural areas, through increased local and foreign investment, subsequently, leading to the cre- ation of greater opportunities in education and employment for the region’s young population.

“Just as I had stated at the beginning of my mandate, the hardearned money of the people is sacred. The job of the civil servant entails putting govern- ment funds to good use and not into pockets, and those who have not adhered to this simple but very basic principle have paid the price outlined in the law and are now behind bar,” the governor declared.
