Minister of Public Security Álvar Cabeza de Vaca, Assistant Attorney General René Urrutia and Mayor Mauricio Trejo met with local businessmen, association heads and representatives of San Miguel’s local community to discuss crime prevention and to devise ways to take action.
During the presentation, Álvar Cabeza de Vaca reiteratedthat since the beginning of Governor Miguel Márquez’s term in office, his administration has encouraged local organizations and the general public to participate in this social endeavor, and particularly San Miguel de Allende’s expat community.
He emphasized that the State Ministry of Public Security (SSPE), the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) and the Municipal Police of San Miguel de Allende have joined forces to tackle the region’s crime issue and to implement preventive measures.
As Governor Miguel Márquez has instructed, these security procedures are being conducted throughout the state, including all municipalities of Guanajuato, regardless of size or authority.
“With respect to operations in San Miguel, we have reinforced security measures and intensified police presence in coordination with the State Public Security Forces, the Federal Judicial Police and the Army,” he stated.
It was the mayor of San Miguel, Mauricio Trejo, who assembled everyone for the meeting, uniting the Ministry of Public Security and the region’s Assistant Attorney General with the National Chamber of Restaurants and Food Services Industry (CANIRAC), the Red Cross and Rotary Club, as well as journalists, hotel owners, taxi drivers and local businessmen, in addition to members of San Miguel’s foreign community.
The mayor indicated that thanks to the new security strategies, in the past three weeks, 11 people suspected of home invasion, suitcase and car theft, have been taken into custody.
René Urrutia, the assistant attorney general, explained that the new justice system doesn’t always allow for the preventive deprivation of liberty, and therefore, in many cases, the detained individuals are released, but he assured the audience that strict follow ups on such cases are conducted.
