Spring vacation has swung around once again and more than 100,000 tourists, who have pre-booked their hotels, are expected to arrive to San Miguel de Allende over coming days.
For local businessmen and law enforcement agents, this will be one of the busiest times of year, with record-breaking numbers of visitors to the city.
The tourism industry will be particularly swamped, although these service providers come well-prepared to maintain San Miguel’s recognized level of excellence in hospitality—one of the main reasons why the city has been deemed a leading tourist spot.
A few days ago, San Miguel de Allende was officially designated the central headquarters for the San Cristóbal operation, whose main objective is to rally police forces and other institutions to ensure public safety over the holidays, with a special focus on the security of city streets, state highways and tourist sites.
Before an audience consisting of municipal, state and federal representatives, Governor Miguel Márquez highlighted that San Miguel was selected as the hub of this state-wide operation because it is the region’s most popular place among vacationers.
“Everyone must come together to make this holiday season the most memorable for those visiting the city,” the governor asserted.
“It is important to underline the role that the men and women within this operation play. It is not purely a matter of law enforcement; it is also about being helpful, friendly and welcoming to our guests. Police agents, traffic control officers and firemen are also promoters of tourism, and thus are required to be attentive to the needs of the public.
“San Miguel de Allende is a cherished city, and so expectations are high,” he added.
As we step into the holiday season, the reality is obvious: San Miguel’s hotels are fully booked and the city will reach maximum capacity. “This is becoming increasingly more common during holiday periods,” remarked the governor. “Given the numbers, the city will be crowded, and I would like to address visitors to the city when I say that it is essential to take extra precautions in order to ensure that your stay is an enjoyable one.”
Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco noted that the flawless coordination of law enforcement units has positioned the state as one of the most attractive destinations, appealing to both domestic and international tourism.
“Today, we can say that San Miguel de Allende has surpassed all expectations. We have achieved record-breaking hotel occupancy levels and top revenues for local businesses. By working together, we have become one of the most coveted wedding destinations and one of the world’s leading tourist havens,” Mauricio Trejo proudly declared.
