This year, the Public Security Force of the State of Guanajuato (FSPE) celebrates its 181st anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the state police force was awarded new uniforms and high-tech equipment.
Some 2,200 intelligent uniforms were distributed among police agents, along with 68 new police vehicles, 259 rifles and an equal number of pistols. Harley Davidson motorcycles were submitted to agents of the Motorized Squadron: a team of 11 officers who specialize in accessing remote areas of the state where larger vehicles may not be able to reach due to the type of terrain.
During the ceremony, Governor Miguel Márquez announced that 276 new posts will be created to underpin the six regional bases of the state police force.
In total, the government has invested over 21 million pesos ($1.6 million) in this major undertaking.
Over the course of its history, the First Light Battalion—officially the Batallón Primer Ligero—has become a highly respected institution and a symbol of courage, loyalty and honor. “I speak for the people of the state of Guanajuato,” the governor proclaimed, “when I say that we are filled with great pride. This institution stands before us today, not only by presidential decree, but for the discipline, order and bravery that the officers of this regiment demonstrate every single day. And they are precisely the reason why Guanajuato is the only Mexican state that has the privilege of having its own armed forces that are as committed and as strong as a national army.”
He commended the impeccable coordination among Guanajuato police forces and publicly thanked the municipal and federal forces for their deep commitment to achieving the common goal: to preserve social peace and well-being in the state.
With this level of support, technology and training, state police forces are well equipped to ensure that Guanajuato continues to be among the safest regions across the nation.
