A new security program will be launched in San Miguel de Allende, the primary aim of which is to train police forces and personnel within the tourism industry to be able to respond to emergency situations.
María Bartoluchi, a security consultant of the Ministry of Tourism, has announced that the ministry and the Organization of American States (OAS) are interested in formalizing a prevention plan for the tourism industry in San Miguel. She underlined that the city can serve as an ambassador for the nation, which is why it is essential to protect its image.
The prevention plan will ensure that hotels are equipped to respond to any type of crisis, providing the appropriate security measures to ensure the safety and comfort of its guests.
A number of hotel owners and managers assisted the meeting, along with Laura Torres Septién, president of the Hotel Association of San Miguel de Allende, Ana Valeria Clarens from the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Food Industry (CANIRAC) and Erwit Reichert, president of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI).
María José Garrido, director of the Department of Tourism, Economic Development and International Affairs, stated that the first training programs are scheduled to start around the end of August or early September.
The personnel of the following government departments will be among those trained: State Highway Patrol, the Department of Civil Protection, the Ministry of Public Security and that of Tourism as well as the people who work for businesses like hotels, restaurants and tourist sites, given that they deal directly with the people visiting our city on a daily basis.
Some of the key areas that will be examined during the training include: crisis management, security standards and security adaptations for tourist sites, in addition to examining ways to build an effective network of communication in order to offer quicker response times and more efficient coordination.
